Gap junction-mediated glycinergic inhibition ensures precise temporal patterning in vocal behavior

چکیده
Precise neuronal firing is especially important for behaviors highly dependent on the correct sequencing and timing of muscle activity patterns, such as acoustic signaling. Acoustic signaling an communication modality vertebrates, including many teleost fishes. Toadfishes are well known to exhibit high temporal fidelity in synchronous motoneuron within a hindbrain network directly determining structure natural calls. Here, we investigated how these motoneurons maintain activation. We show that pronounced precision population-level motoneuronal depends gap junction-mediated, glycinergic inhibition generates period reduced probability Super-resolution microscopy confirms release sites formed by subset adjacent premotoneurons contacting somata dendrites. In aggregate, evidence supports hypothesis provides mechanism achieving synchrony millisecond range rapid modulation waveforms.

Regional gap junction inhibition increases defibrillation thresholds.
It is clear that ischemia inhibits successful defibrillation by altering regional electro-physiology. However, the exact mechanisms are unclear. This study investigated whether regional gap junction inhibition increases biphasic shock defibrillation thresholds (DFT). Sixteen swine were instrumented with a mid-left anterior descending (LAD) perfusion catheter for regional infusion of 0.5 mM/h he...
متن کاملInhibition of gap junction-mediated intercellular communication by TNF-alpha in cultured human corneal fibroblasts.
PURPOSE Keratocytes are connected to each other by gap junctions, which mediate intercellular communication and contribute to maintenance of corneal homeostasis. The possible effect of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, a proinflammatory cytokine, on gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC) in cultured human corneal fibroblasts was examined. METHODS GJIC activity was measured by obse...
متن کاملInhibition of Gap Junction–Mediated Intercellular Communication by TNF- in Cultured Human Corneal Fibroblasts
RESULTS. TNFinduced a timeand concentration-dependent decrease in GJIC activity in human corneal fibroblasts. Immunofluorescence analysis revealed that TNFreduced the level of specific staining for Cx43 at sites of contact between adjacent cells. Immunoblot analysis detected four specific Cx43 bands, one corresponding to the nonphosphorylated form of the protein and three corresponding to phosp...

The protein structural component of gap junctions is the connexin. Studies onthe association properties of the connexins to form heteromeric connexons andheterotypic gap junctions are necessary for a complete understanding of the role ofdifferent connexins in gap junction function. The connexins are coded by a multigenefamily consisting of at least 16 members. Most cells express...
متن کاملGap junction-mediated antigen transport in immune responses.
Communication between cells is a crucial part of the immune response. The importance of cytokines and immunological synapses for this purpose has long been recognized. Connexin-based gap junctions that allow exchange of molecules between adjacent cells also seem to have an important role. Recent work suggests that gap junction-mediated antigen transport might be a mechanism of immune-response r...
